A stain on the ceiling is rarely above the stain. We find where the water actually got in.
Water travels along the decking before it drops, so the wet patch on your ceiling is often several feet from the hole. We trace it properly instead of replacing the shingles nearest the mark and hoping.
Most leaks come down to flashing at a wall or chimney, a cracked boot around a vent pipe, or nails that backed out and lifted a course. All three are a same day fix and none of them need a whole new roof.
